GEORGE NIEMANN

George Niemann is a veteran seaplane and advanced-instruction specialist who has been teaching pilots for more than twenty years. As a Chief Flight Instructor for a Part 141 school with bases in Maine and Florida, he focuses on complex and high-performance aircraft, real-world seaplane operations, and advanced proficiency. For the past fourteen years, he has flown an amphibious Maule on frequent missions along the Downeast coast and in the Mount Katahdin region, giving him deep practical experience in demanding coastal and backcountry environments.

Born in Tanzania, East Africa, George first learned to fly in bush planes and discovered a passion for aviation that has stayed with him for life. After a successful career as a doctoral-level clinician in the neurosciences, he founded a charter company operating along the U.S. East Coast from Maine to Florida and throughout the Caribbean. Years of crossing extensive stretches of water inspired him to earn his seaplane rating over thirty years ago—a decision that ultimately led him into seaplane instruction. Today, he combines a scientist’s mindset with a bush pilot’s practicality, tailoring instruction to each student so they become safe, confident, and capable in the cockpits they fly.

Alan Miller

Alan Miller is a bush pilot and instructor who trains students for both private and commercial ratings. He specializes in seaplane instruction, tailwheel training, and spin training and endorsements for CFI candidates, with a strong emphasis on safety, preparation, and disciplined decision-making. Alan owns a Cessna 185, which he flies on wheels, skis, and PK-3000 straight floats in his free time.

A lifelong Maine resident, Alan grew up in Boothbay, just down the road from the peninsula’s only grass airstrip. Summer evenings were spent racing bikes with his brother to the strip to catch rides in the resident J-3 Cubs, often with a local lobsterman who had flown P-51 Mustangs in World War II.

Those sunset flights cemented a love of aviation that never faded. After earning a B.S. in Finance and Accounting from Husson University, Alan built a 43-year career in wealth management and now owns a Bangor-based firm. Weekends at Beech Hill Pond watching C150s, C170s, and C180s flown by some of the best pilots he’d ever seen finally pushed him to enroll in ground school at KBHB—and he hasn’t looked back since.

Today, he continues to balance his work in finance with an active flying life in Maine’s close-knit aviation community.
